Just a quick flight from many U.S. cities, Playa del Carmen is the ideal escape when you need a little sunshine, a lot of relaxation, and maybe even a mischievous monkey or two. I recently spent a few days at The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences, and I’m here to report: this property — and the entire area — is a Mexica gem worth exploring. Whether you’re planning a romantic retreat, a wellness-focused recharge, or a fun-filled friends getaway, Playa del Carmen delivers.

Here’s a full recap of my stay — from stunning resort experiences to unexpected jungle adventures.

Day 1: Arriving in Paradise

After landing in Cancun around 3 PM, we headed straight to The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences, our home base for the next few nights. The scenic drive south from Cancun is part of the magic — think tropical greenery, bright turquoise water, and the relaxed charm of Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

We arrived at the resort and were warmly welcomed with a cool towel and refreshing welcome drink — the kind of first impression that instantly melts away travel stress. Lunch at Natura, a casual open-air spot surrounded by lush landscaping, set the tone for the trip: relaxed luxury with a strong connection to nature.

After a brief resort tour (yes, it’s big — and beautiful!), we checked into our 2-bedroom residence — spacious, modern, and perfect for relaxing, unpacking, and preparing for dinner at Mestizo, the on-site Mexican restaurant serving up bold flavors in a cozy atmosphere.

Day 2: Resort Hopping & Hidden Gems

We started our day with a lovely breakfast at Flavors, The Fives’ buffet restaurant. The star of the morning? Freshly toasted tortillas at the egg station — add some salsa and eggs and it’s heaven on a plate. Oh, and the bottomless mimosas didn’t hurt either.

Stop #1: Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

Our first tour was of the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya, an adults-only, boutique-style resort with a peaceful, spa-like atmosphere. This property is perfect for couples looking to unplug and reconnect. The highlight? The open-air hydrotherapy area, nestled in the jungle, which might just be the most serene I’ve ever seen. Zilara also boasts one of the widest beaches in the Riviera Maya — picture-perfect for an intimate wedding or vow renewal.

Stop #2: Secrets & Impressions Moxché

Next, we visited the Secrets and Impressions Moxché resorts — two luxury properties in one. Secrets guests enjoy seven à la carte restaurants, a lively social scene, and even a hidden speakeasy. Meanwhile, Impressions guests enjoy all of the above plus elevated amenities like butler service and access to a rooftop infinity pool with jaw-dropping ocean views.

Whether you’re celebrating something special or just craving a luxe adult escape, these sister resorts offer both energy and indulgence — you’ll never get bored.

Day 2 Continued: Back at The Fives for Activities & Fun

Lunch at La Brasserie (think burgers, wings, and pasta in a French bistro setting) gave us the fuel we needed to dive into some of the resort’s daily activities. I joined a sound meditation class at the spa — one peaceful hour of doing absolutely nothing while listening to tranquil tones. As a mom of three, that silence was a gift. 😌

Later, we stumbled upon a hat painting workshop (so fun and totally Instagram-worthy), followed by a stop at the resort’s Cantina for an informative and tasty tequila tasting. The best part? All of these activities were included in our stay — no extra fees, just extra memories.

Day 3: Spa, Pools & Thai Cuisine

Today was all about me time. After another mouthwatering breakfast at Flavors (seriously, don’t miss the tortillas), I returned to the spa for hydrotherapy and a deep tissue massage. If you book any spa treatment, the hydrotherapy circuit is complimentary — a great perk!

Then, it was off to pool hop across the resort’s seven different pools, each with its own vibe and style. Whether you’re in the mood for quiet lounging or upbeat music and cocktails, there’s a spot for you.

Dinner that night was at Koh Thai, an immersive Thai dining experience. We sampled a variety of dishes bursting with flavor — it was the perfect celebratory meal to wrap up a relaxing stay.

Day 4: The One Where the Monkey Stole My Coffee

On our last morning, we set out with one mission: to find the spider monkeys that live in and around the resort. We’d seen coatis and capybaras, but the monkeys had remained elusive.

That is — until we found them on the nature trail. While trying to snap a picture, one little guy came right up to me, grabbed my coffee, and ran! ☕🐒 He didn’t drink it (thankfully) and quickly dropped it in favor of heading toward the resort’s daily fruit delivery.

It was the perfect send-off: a reminder that at The Fives, even your last moments are full of surprises.

Travel Inspirations: Alaska Adventure https://alltravelcompany.com/travel-inspirations-alaska-adventure/ Fri, 19 Jan 2024 15:53:44 +0000 https://alltravelcompany.com/?p=1254

To be honest, I am a warm-weather person. I love the feeling of the sun hitting my skin, the ocean breeze flowing through my hair, and relaxing with a good book and cocktail in hand. Alaska, the final frontier, was not on my radar. That is until my family decided that this vacation needed to happen, and it didn’t take long for me to fall in love.

The Last Frontier

Alaska is a state full of majesty and wonder. With its majestic peaks, mirror lakes, and wonderous glaciers, Alaska is a vacation that many families have on their bucket lists. Over the past two years, I have planned over 30 Alaska vacations both on land and from the sea and had the privilege of sailing with my family on our Alaska Adventure. Helping clients plan this amazing vacation is such a joy and many that go once want to go again and again.

Alaska can feel overwhelming, so here are my top five questions to ask when planning for a successful Alaska vacation.

1. Why Alaska?

That sounds like a simple question, right? But Alaska has a hugely diverse ecosystem. Deciding what exactly is drawing you to Alaska can help shape the type of vacation you are trying to plan. Is Glacier watching top on your list? Then cruise through Glacier Bay might be just the ticket. Want to experience the great outdoors, go fly fishing, and see some amazing wildlife? Then let’s look at Denali Park and all that it has to offer. If you just can’t decide, then maybe a cruise tour is your best option.

2. Who is going?

I often hear we aren’t going to Alaska because x/y/z are too young or I’m too old. There is so much to do, that you can find a perfect vacation for everyone involved. Alaska cruises are perfect for this. For the active traveler, glacier treks and hikes might be top of the list. For those families with younger cruisers, enjoy a whale-watching excursion for some of the larger vessels, a train ride through the Yukon, or even a bus trip that stops for some husky puppy play. Cruise ships are also filled with entertainment for entire families. Don’t forget about those kid’s clubs, that can give mom and dad a little break in all the excitement.

3. What time of year?

Alaska vacations typically span the months of May to September, with some cruises continuing into October. The most popular months are summer when kids are out of school and families can travel. May and September are considered shoulder seasons. While you have fewer crowds, you may also have cooler weather or more rain. Your focus while in Alaska may also affect when you would like to travel. If you are hoping to see bears, the months of May, June, and July are best. Looking to schedule fishing? Try the months of June, July, and August. Want to experience the Northern Lights? You will want to book during those later September cruises.

4. What should I wear?

This is probably the most asked question. Alaska temperatures can vary greatly, especially if you plan to visit multiple locations. The key here is layers. Plan to pack or purchase a good waterproof jacket and wear long and short sleeves while out exploring. Also, although cruise lines will schedule a formal night, guests tend to dress more casually compared to those on Caribbean Cruises.

5. Is Alaska worth it?

100% yes! Visiting Alaska is one of my favorite vacation memories with my family. Pictures online do not do justice to just how beautiful the landscape is. The people, the land, and the experience are something you will treasure forever.

Why is it Important to have Travel Insurance? https://alltravelcompany.com/why-is-it-important-to-have-travel-insurance/ Fri, 19 Jan 2024 11:13:50 +0000 https://alltravelcompany.com/?p=1233

Embarking on an international journey is an exhilarating experience filled with anticipation, discovery, and the promise of unforgettable memories. Our agency is here to guide you through every step of your adventure. One crucial aspect that often gets overlooked is the importance of having comprehensive travel insurance. Let’s delve into why travel insurance is not just an optional add-on but an essential companion for your journey.

  1. Unforeseen Circumstances: Life is unpredictable, and so is travel. Despite meticulous planning, unforeseen circumstances can disrupt even the most well-organized trip. Travel insurance acts as a safety net, providing coverage for unexpected events such as trip cancellations, delays, or interruptions. Whether it’s a sudden illness, a family emergency, or unforeseen work commitments, having travel insurance ensures you won’t bear the financial burden of unexpected changes to your travel plans.
  2. Medical Emergencies Abroad: Health emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. While you may have health insurance at home, it might not cover medical expenses incurred abroad. Travel insurance typically includes coverage for emergency medical expenses, ensuring that you receive the necessary care without breaking the bank. From doctor’s visits to hospital stays and evacuation services, travel insurance offers peace of mind in the face of unexpected health challenges.
  3. Lost or Delayed Baggage: Imagine arriving at your dream destination, only to discover that your luggage is missing. Travel insurance can provide coverage for lost, stolen, or delayed baggage, allowing you to replace essential items and continue your journey without unnecessary stress. In some cases, coverage extends beyond just clothes and personal items; it can also include coverage for important documents like passports and travel documents.
  4. Trip Interruption and Cancellation: Life is full of uncertainties, and sometimes plans need to change. Whether it’s due to a personal emergency or a global event affecting your destination, travel insurance may reimburse you for non-refundable expenses related to trip cancellations or interruptions. This includes prepaid accommodations, flights, and other non-refundable expenses, ensuring that you don’t lose out financially when circumstances force you to alter your plans.
  5. 24/7 Assistance Services: Travel insurance often comes with 24/7 assistance services, providing you with support and guidance in unfamiliar territories. Whether you need help finding a local medical facility, replacing lost travel documents, or navigating a language barrier, these services are invaluable in ensuring a smoother travel experience.

As an agency, our goal is to make your international adventure as seamless and enjoyable as possible. By investing in travel insurance, you’re not just protecting yourself financially; you’re ensuring that unforeseen events won’t derail your travel dreams. Remember, a well-planned trip includes not only choosing the best destinations and accommodations but also safeguarding your journey with comprehensive travel insurance.

I’m Sold…Now What?!?

While travel insurance is a crucial component of your international travel preparations, it’s important to note that each insurance policy is unique. The coverage, terms, and conditions can vary significantly between different insurance providers and plans. It is the responsibility of the traveler to thoroughly review and understand the specifics of their chosen travel insurance policy.

Before making any decisions, we strongly recommend that you carefully read the policy documents, paying close attention to the inclusions, exclusions, and limitations. If you have any questions or concerns about the coverage, don’t hesitate to contact the insurance provider directly for clarification.

It’s essential to be aware that certain situations or circumstances may not be covered by standard travel insurance policies. Common exclusions may include pre-existing medical conditions, extreme sports or activities, and certain natural disasters. Additionally, coverage for cancellations or interruptions may vary based on the reason for the change in plans.

Ultimately, the effectiveness of your travel insurance hinges on your understanding of the policy and your ability to make informed decisions based on your individual needs and circumstances. As travel advisors, we are here to provide guidance and answer general questions, but the final responsibility lies with you, the traveler, to ensure that your chosen travel insurance policy aligns with your expectations and requirements.

Safe travels!
